Sullivan Elevator Grille Earrings

Item# DHERS9272

The Sullivan Elevator Grille Earrings were inspired by a wrought iron elevator door installed in the Chicago Stock Exchange building in 1893, designed by Louis Sullivan. In his 1924 book, A System of Architectural Ornament, Louis Sullivan compared the metamorphosis of a seed into a plant to the development of his basic design motifs into a full-scale architectural structure. This elevator door, in which repeated small shapes merge into larger forms to produce an intricate, energy-filled overall pattern, illustrates this idea. Tarnish resistant silver plated finish on brass with translucent sapphire bead. Hypoallergenic posts for pierced ears. Made in the USA. French hooks. Gift boxed with descriptive insert. Length: 2”.
