The Sather Tower, the beloved landmark of University of California Berkeley (a.k.a “The Campanile”) was designed by John Galen Howard, the architect who was responsible for the overall Beaux-Art-style campus plan. Its first twelve bell carillon music was played on November 6th, 1917. This Campanile print is Yoshiko Yamamoto’s tribute to the memory of the creative days she spent at University of California Berkeley, and the beautiful Campanile. The Campanile print is letterpress printed, using thirteen hand carved blocks on 100% cotton paper. Each print is signed and is one of a numbered limited edition of 240. Framed size: 15” x 22.5”. The frames are quartersawn oak with mortise & tenon construction by Dard Hunter Studios.
Founded in 1996 by Yoshiko Yamamoto with her husband Bruce Smith, the Arts & Crafts Press uses antique printing presses to handcraft traditional woodblock prints and letterpress printed greeting cards at their studio in Tacoma, Washington. While preserving and advancing the traditional aspects of letterpress and woodblock printing, the Arts and Crafts Press also strives to print for our future generations with a commitment to seeking alternative, "greener" printing materials and tools.
