This elegant Nichibei Potters hand made bamboo design vase in forest green glaze accented with brown glaze rim and interior works as both an individual piece or as part of a group. The Nichibei Bamboo Vase is hand-thrown on the potters wheel. After throwing a tall cylinder, the bottom and center defining lines are added to allow the bamboo shape to take form. The branches are added half-way through the drying process. The piece is then low fired, glazed, and high fired. As each piece is a one of a kind handmade object, you may find slight variations in glaze and form. Variations are a beautiful part of the individual character and uniqueness of pottery made by hand. The piece you receive will be uniquely your own. Marked with logo and signed on base. Height: 8.25”.
The work of Nichibei Potters is a blend of traditional Japanese folk art and contemporary design resulting in an innovative collection of hand made pottery. Each hand thrown piece represents a balance of form and function. Unique to Nichibei is a beautiful jade green color. The color is achieved by applying a copper glaze to porcelain clay and high-firing it in a gas kiln at 2,400 degrees.
Mikio Matsumoto became a potter after moving to California in 1985, and found clay to be the perfect medium for personal creative expression. Mikio’s sense of precision is visible in Nichibei’s meticulously carved jars. Cheryl Costantini has had a life long interest in pottery and traditional artistic expression. Literally translated, Nichibei means “Japan and America.”
