Our Small Tribute to the Very Deserving Michael Graves, 1934-2015

"Michael Graves has created art that surrounds our lives." -former President Bill Clinton

Graves, a celebrated architect and product designer, passed away at age 80 last week. But his whimsical body of work will live on in homes around the world.

Graves grew into the father of Postmodernism and his Portland Municipal Building became the first major built example of the architectural movement. The Denver Public Library was another noteworthy Grave accomplishment.

But he was known to most people for his playful and practical designs in over 2,000 household items. From tea pots to watches, Graves designed wildly popular products for retailers like Alessi, Target and JC Penny.

"Most of what exists now for such people is just too depressing to even die in. I believe well-designed places and objects can actually improve healing, while poor design can inhibit it." -Michael Graves
